About Julie Lucas
Julie C. Lucas has served on the Prince William County School Board representing the Neabsco District since October 2002 when she was unanimously chosen from 12 applicants to replace Mrs. Mary Williams who lost her fight with cancer in September 2002, and was elected to a four-year term in November 2003 with 65% of the vote.
Julie served as Vice Chairman of the School Board in 2005 and has represented the Board on the County's Audit Committee, member and Chairman of the School Board's Policy Committee, the representative for the Washington Area Board of Education, the Northern Virginia Special Education Regional Advisory Council and currently the Student Health Advisory Board. Before serving on the School Board Julie served on the Career and Technical Education Advisory Board.
Julie is the president and owner of Lucas Financial Group, an independent financial services company. Julie helped all Virginians by changing the insurance law to allow companies to provide chronic illness riders to insurance policies. House Bill 1294 allows Virginians to have access to money to pay for health care needs that they might not otherwise have. Julie Lucas single handedly, successfully lobbied the Virginia General Assembly to make this bill law. Julie has a very strong working relationship with her entire Board, the Board of County Supervisors and our General Assembly Delegation. Julie is a strong advocate for public education and will continue to fight hard for what we need for our children!
Like most people, Julie learned her values and sense of civic duty from her parents. This was especially true of Julie and the relationship she has with her father who proudly served, and retired from, the U.S. Air Force as a Lt. Colonel. One memory that stands out with Julie is when her father, stationed at the Pentagon, bought her a t-shirt that read, "A woman's place is in the House and the Senate." Prophesy? Only time will tell.
Julie graduated from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a B.A. in political science and began her career teaching government and economics to high school seniors. Julie knows what it is like to be in the classroom and has made hiring and retaining quality teachers a top priority!
In addition to being in the financial services industry she currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club and is the Fundraising Chairman for the organization. With her leadership she has helped the Prince William Clubs raise over $250,000. She was honored to receive the "Woman and Youth" award in 2006. Julie is working with the Attorney General's office to form a partnership with the Boys and Girls Club to help teach Internet safety to our children and create gang prevention programs. Over the next four years Julie would like to see these programs implemented in Prince William County Public Schools.
Julie is the Chairman of Administrative and Youth Services for the Woodbridge Kiwanis Club, a member of the American Business Women's Association, the Occoquan District Committee for the Boys Scouts of America, the Dale City Civic Association, and a member of First Baptist Church in Woodbridge.
